Safari shares humanitarian situation in eastern Congo, October 2023

Safari KANYENA

Our Congolese colleague, Safari Kanyena, is in Indonesia with German project partners (United Evangelical Mission), participating in a disaster management course.

The participants are from Africa, Asia and Germany. For background on Safari, click here.

Safari has kindly shared his presentation below on the current humanitarian situation in eastern Congo. HandUp Congo is acknowledged. The stats are from the UN Office of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA).

The pictures of children are a sample of the support HUC gave to displaced persons’ refugee camps, in collaboration with Baptist Community of Central Africa (CBCA) and Research and Action Group for Peace and Development (GRAPD).

Safari’s been appointed by CBCA as coordinator of its humanitarian work, representing four huge DRC church denominations. This is a new church position that aims to collect information about disaster management, organising humanitarian response and participating in disaster management networking.

Safari writes, “You can understand how much I will need the permanent help of my Australian friends, whose hearts are in Africa.”
