Only 55 sleeps till our Aussie volunteer team leaves for Congo! With the Lane Cove River and Sydney skyline behind us, meet Maureen, Lucy, Vera and Chris. Grace, a cruise ship doctor, is on the high seas and isn’t pictured. We are excited about seeing the Congo River and Kinshasa skyline on the opposite side of the world before too long. Only one team member is Australian-born. Two are MDs, another works for a town council, while two have PR backgrounds. All are adventurous and want to make a difference in Congo by contributing their skills. Led by Lucy, a HandUp Congo co-founder and co-director, this team will take part in the 6th Congo Canoe Challenge, a 600 km roundtrip journey in a dugout canoe. Our goal? To provide medical training and capacity building support in two remote riverside communities where HandUp Congo has been working since 2005. Stay tuned!
