The founders of HandUp Congo, Inc., understand that the poor in developing countries often simply lack tools to better their lives and their communities.

Current focus: Lotumbe village, a remote regional medical hub in Equatorial Province, Democratic Republic of Congo, and Université Protestante au Congo (UPC) in Kinshasa

We see ourselves as collaborators and bridge-builders. We work with other NGOs and non-profits like International Centre for Eyecare Education, HEAL Africa, Global Ministries, HOPE International, Medical Students' Aid Project, CNEC Partners International and Aid for Africa Down Under, as well as with individuals around the world who share their skills and time with us. We listen to our Congolese partners and work with them to define and prioritize their needs. Our aim is to identify and deliver tools, resources, and partnerships to enable our Congolese colleagues to build their community's capacities. We do this by:
  • Serving as liaison between local communities and local NGOs in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and donors and/or partners.
  • Consulting with communities in Equatorial Province and elsewhere in DRC as requested.
  • Researching and, when necessary, seeking funds for low-cost or no-cost professional services, including, but not limited to: medical care, engineering services, construction services, electrical services, maintenance services, etc.; and, when necessary, serving as liaison for implementation.
  • Conducting public relations on an ongoing basis for the purpose of promoting and fund-raising for community-identified projects.
  • Investing and directing revenues for the support and benefit of selected projects/initiatives in the form of scholarship endowments, grants, funding for capital improvements, as well as creation of income-generating projects.
