  • $29,300 - outfits the general surgery: 2 major surgery trays (instruments); 2 minor surgery trays (instruments); 2 orthopedic surgery trays; 200 boxes of sutures; 200 boxes (50 pairs each) of surgical gloves; 100 boxes (100 pairs) of exam gloves; 200 boxes of 50 surgical masks; 200 packs of surgical supplies including scrub brushes, dressings, syringes, needles, tape, disinfectant, etc.
Income-generating Projects
  • $7500 – rehabilitates a community-owned building and furnishes it as a guesthouse for paying visitors. This project was proposed by FLO, Fondation Lucie Otaenga. Given Lotumbe's position as a regional Rural Health Zone center, HandUp Congo founders inspected the building, discussed the business plan, and determined that a guest house is a viable income-generating proposal.

  • $30,000 – purchases & transports to the village a portable sawmill, parts, a generator & start-up fuel. Operated by local men who would volunteer their time for community projects, the sawmill would reduce costs in rehabilitating school & community structures (including the hospital) and, like the original gift of the sewing machines, would generate income for the community thereafter.
